Candy!!!

The other day I let Katelyn pick what ever she wanted for dinner. And yes your eyes see clearly, that is a whole plate of candy.



Just kidding with ya. Man, but that would be the best. Probably not so much for those cute little picket fence teeth. That is the plate for all the candy that came with our gingerbread house kit.

Here's the final product. No I did not make the house. I was proud that I made dinner and also some cookies that night. Katelyn had a great time. She put the candy on the house and not in her mouth until the end when we said she could have some. Nate helped her with most of it while I played with Sadie. We tried to have Sadie at the table, but she is Miss grabby hands. If anything is barely out of reach, she can magically get it. I love doing gingerbread houses. It's a favorite from my childhood (and yes, my mom did make them from scratch).

Ho Ho Ho!

Tis the season for celebration and last Saturday we went up to Park City to do just that. It was a wonderful day. We decided to go up just after lunch so Katelyn could sleep in the car and we would still have plenty of time to have some fun. It was quite a drive since the weather finally decided it would be winter, but we made it without any problems.

After we arrived and were filled with a few quick snacks, Grandpa Steve, Anjanette, Katelyn and I put on some warm clothes and headed for the snow. We wanted to try out our new sled and found a great place to do it. Unfortunately we got kicked off the hill as soon as we got the snow good and packed. We didn't want to give up just yet so we headed down the road to a golf course Gail told us about. Katelyn seemed to have a really good time but little fingers get cold so we headed back after a few good runs. We didn't get any pictures of the sledding, but here's what some of the snow looked like.

We had a wonderful dinner and moved on to what the world believes Christmas is all about. It's always a little crazy when you get that many people together, but I think everyone had a good time. Of course we missed Hunter, Mandy and Andrew (and Austin too I guess). If you want to see pictures, Zarah has posted some on her blog. Unfortunately, if you don't want to click the extra buttons, you'll have to settle with these.


Katelyn got a little sidetracked with her new dollhouse at the party. Here she is as the fun continues at home.


Gail made these dresses for Sadie and Katelyn. I was really impressed and excited because Anjanette had been looking for matching clothes for a while.

Next time we'll have to remember the camera so we can get more pictures to share with all of you.

Half Birthday

Yes, Sadie is 6 months old. It was a week ago today. The first part of the day was happy, but the rest she wasn't feeling too good. It had to do with the 5 shots she got when we went to her well child visit. The doctor says she is doing great (I could have told you that) and she is very healthy. She has reached all the milestones she should have, except for rolling from her back to her front. Her stats were: Length 27.5 inches, 97%ile; Weight 20 lbs 15 oz, greater than 97%ile; Head Circumference 44.8 cm, greater than 97%ile. Her weight has stayed on the same curve, but her head size has now caught up with her body and her height is tapering just a bit. Katelyn also had to get her flu booster shot and did great with it. It always seems that Sadie is fine and then she takes a nap and wakes up miserable. Usually right now I can't get her to do anything but try to grab at things constantly and she is always trying to sit upright. The whole afternoon, after waking up for her nap, she just layed against me not even trying to move. I would show her a toy and she wouldn't try to grab it. The next day she was back to herself.

Meeting Santa

At our ward's Christmas party we had the cutest Santa come. I wish Nate was posting this because I wasn't there when Katelyn sat on Santa's lap. I was busy cutting red velvet cake and cheesecake in the kitchen. I guess Katelyn was scared the whole time in line, but when it became her turn she did it without hesitation. Nate said she told Santa she wanted a present for Christmas. I guess she'll be getting a big empty box wrapped up from Santa this year. She has always been easy to please. This Santa is actually the grandpa of some kids in our ward. It's his real hair and beard and everything. I think I've found my new favorite Santa.

Milk: It does a body good!

Here's my strong Sadie Bug. Last night she was trying to inch her knees. She was so close to moving. She gets frustrated because she can't get where she wants to go. She will definitely start scooting around soon. All of Katelyn's toys are great motivation.

Gobble Gobble Gobble

This is what Katelyn and I have been doing today. It has been hard not to gobble them up (couldn't resist a few). All the ones pictured I made because Katelyn's were casualties rather quickly. Hope you all have a great Thanksgiving and realize how much each of us have to be thankful for.

Just Hanging Out

This is what Sadie has been doing all day. She loves playing with her toys and sitting. She has been sitting by herself and she loves it. You might notice the pillows behind her, but she hasn't fallen on them once today. They are mostly for my peace of mind. She has been having so much fun.

Dinosaurs and Butterflies?

Katelyn's Birthday

Katelyn wanted to go to the Dinosaur Museum on her birthday. So Sadie and I took her there. We had to brave the wind and rain, but it was so worth it. Katelyn had a great time playing. It was nice to relax and just watch her play.
Sadie was a big help. She stayed happy even though mom woke her up by pulling her out of the car and being pelted by cold rain. I love that she is so close to sitting on her own. I can now use small strollers.
When daddy got home from work, we ate dinner and then went to vote. Even though I don't really think our votes matter since we live in Utah (always the same outcome), we both thought it was important to always show our kids that we do our civic duty.

Katelyn had a great time opening presents. She loved everything that she got. She had to play with everything. We had to pry her away so we could eat cake.

Thank you to Grandma Paula, we have two kids birthday cake books. Katelyn had so much fun going through each one and finally, after much thought, picked to have this butterfly cake. I think it turned out really cute. I always have a lot of fun putting them together.

Katelyn and I both liked it. Nate liked the cake part, but it had yucky oreos on it. He is so strange. Who hates oreos? It is actually kind of great because if I buy them, they don't mysteriously disappear.

Birthday Party

Yesterday we had a little birthday party for Katelyn. It was fun to have some of her little friends over to play and celebrate. I gave her a few options for themes and she picked to have a Noah's Ark party.

I found some great stuff online at Oriental Trading. They had these great Noah's ark picture frames that you got to decorate with animal stickers.

We also decorated cupcakes. Katelyn loved having her friends over to play.

Can't believe you're 3. Makes me want to cry. (Already have twice today.) I'm so proud of who you are becoming. I'm so glad that I get to see you grow up. I love you!

Halloween Fun

Carving Pumpkins:
We carved pumpkins for family night and Katelyn was so excited to do it. She drew all over her pumpkin with faces and then told Nate she wanted a ghost on her pumpkin. I did a spider and web, thanks to a stencil, and Nate did a tree in the moon. They all turned out good.

This is Katelyn very upset because I am asking her to stick her hand in the pumpkin and help clean it out. She just really doesn't like to be dirty. Nate and I cleaned out most of it, but she did eventually pull out a few seeds one at a time.

Costumes:

Sadie was the cutest pumpkin ever.

Katelyn was Tinkerbell (not the best picture of her costume). Before Halloween every time someone asked her what she was going to be she would say a ghost. I have know idea where she came up with that, so I guess I forced her to be Tinkerbell this year.

Ward Party:

We had a great ward party this year. There was a trunk or treat, chili, pumpkin carving, and cookie decorating. It was an amazing turn out and brought a lot of inactives and nonmembers out. We were so happy it was a success.

Trick or Treating:

We went over to this car dealership that was doing a trunk or treat and we also went out that night to some houses around where we live. It was great fun.

Katelyn found Mickey and was very excited.

One of my favorite parts after trick or treating is separating and sorting all the candy to see what you got.

Cornbelly's

Here we are at Cornbelly's. Katelyn had a great time going down slides, riding the cow train, getting her face painted, and playing in corn sand boxes. We also went through the small corn maze. It brought back memories for Nate and I when I was pregnant with Katelyn. We came to this place two weeks before I had Katelyn and we got lost in the maze. It was dark and very muddy. Our shoes had two inches of mud stuck to the bottom and it took a lot to take just one step. We were glad to see that it wasn't wet this time.

The Midavaine's Visit

This last week we had Sarah's family visiting us. We had a lot of fun together. The cousins had fun playing together, Sarah and Scott had fun thinking of things for us to do, and I had fun trying to feed the crowd. Two extra adults and three extra kids that eat like adults was a little different to feed then what I am use to; two adults and a little bird. The kids had fun in all our activities and would crash at night in one big sleepover; rotating to take turns sleeping next to Katelyn. While they slept, Scott, Sarah, Nate, and I would try to perfect our skill at Guitar Hero. Thanks so much for visiting us. I wish we lived closer. Maybe soon.

Here we are at the Dinosaur Museum. All of us had a great time at the sand and water table. There is so much to look at and do at this museum.

This is at Kangaroo Zoo. The kids had a great time going down slides and bouncing around. I think I saw Jared once the whole time we were there. They were exhausted by the time we left; half of it doing with how hard they played and the other part was how late at night it was.

We also took at trip to Temple Square. Sarah and Scott had not seen the Conference Center since it was built, so we got to take a tour of it. It is such a spectacular building. We took the kids and had lunch while Sarah, Scott, and Henri went to the Joseph Smith movie. At the Museum of Church History and Art, there is a kids area called 'I Am a Child of God'. The kids had a good time playing there. I would just like to mention that the temple picture (above) was actually taken by Zarah and Ashton on the day Melissa and Trevor were married. I think it is an amazing picture and wanted to include it.

Snow Already?

Katelyn was so excited when we woke up Sunday morning and there was snow on the ground. I had some other words to say about it. After breakfast she got all her stuff on and was ready to go play on the balcony.
Here is the snowman Daddy helped her make. I was pretty excited to see that her coat and gloves still kind of fit. Her snow pants are too short, but the boots made up for that.
The snow was short lived. This is her sad snowman this morning. I'm sure it will be replaced in not too long. It is one of Katelyn's favorite things to do.

Four Months! (in two days)

We went for Sadie's four month well child visit today. She is still topping the charts and I love it. Weight: 18lbs 13oz, greater than 97%ile; Length: 27 inches, greater than 97%ile; Head Circ: 42.8cm, 90%ile. She is doing great and very healthy. We love our Sadie Bug.
