Monkey Bar Mayhem

Last week on Wednesday we were at the park with some friends enjoying some nice weather we were having.  Katelyn has been getting really good at the monkey bars.  That is what she does at recess with her friends.  Sadie tried to be like Katelyn and do the monkey bars.  She fell a good 6 feet to the hard dirt ground.  She was crying and said her left wrist hurt.  If you remember this is the same wrist she keeps hurting by pulling it out.  I was not sure if she hurt it by hanging from the monkey bars with her one arm and that is why she let go or if she hurt it when she fell.  That night it was swollen and she wasn't using her hand at all, similar to past times when she has hurt it.  She had a rough night, waking up a lot throughout the night crying.  The next day I still was watching her and trying to decide if I should take her to the doctor.  Nate was out of town that week, so I didn't have any second opinions.  I really hate going to the doctor and especially to tell you they can't do anything.  I went and spent the night at my sisters house that day and Sadie still wasn't using her hand.  My sister and her husband thought I should take her in to the doctor, so Friday morning I took her in.  She had an x-ray that showed she has a closed fracture in her wrist.  Yes, I feel really guilty that I didn't take her sooner.

 She got a splint put on that day.  Yesterday she got her cast.  They put a full arm one on so that it wouldn't slide off, which her splint did quite frequently once the swelling in her arm went down. 

She has done really well with all of it.  No crying, but also no talking to any of the doctors or nursed or anyone.  They think she will have the full arm for 3-4 weeks and then a shorter one for 1-2 weeks.  Not really what I expected to be doing for last week.  Kids sure keep life busy and not dull.
